Don't Be Afraid Of The Medical Insurance Examination

Insurance companies often require the applicant to undergo a medical insurance examination prior to issuing an insurance policy. Also called a physical or physical examination, the medical insurance examination allows the insurance company to know your physical health. Just as you would not buy a used car without having it checked by your mechanic, the insurance company won't sell you a policy without you having a medical insurance examination.

There is really nothing to fear if you are asked to take a medical insurance examination. You will visit a doctor and have a routine check-up. Often the doctor will be specified by the insurance company. Sometimes you can use your own physician for the medical insurance examination. Be sure to ask who is paying for the exam, however. If the insurance company wants you to pay for the medical insurance examination, ask if they will reimburse you for the cost. If not, weigh the exam cost against your budget and decide whether to proceed or to seek another insurance company.

Some people prefer to give the doctor no additional information during a medical insurance examination. This is not a good idea. Anything you might be hiding will probably be discovered by the doctor. If you don't tell the doctor about problems that you know you have, and the doctor doesn't find them, that is potential for insurance fraud. Cooperate fully during the medical insurance examination and truthfully answer all questions. If the insurance company is paying, at least you'll get a free physical.

Expect lab tests to be part of your medical insurance exam. The doctor will take blood samples to check your general health. Those samples will also be screened for diseases and disorders. A urine test is also part of the medical insurance exam. Doctors can determine a surprising amount of information about your health from this test as well. Both men and women might be asked to submit to more private examinations of certain areas. Don't let that alarm you if it occurs during your medical insurance exam.

Vision tests, hearing tests, or dental exams are not usually part of the routine medical insurance examination. These or other tests might be required, however, if the insurance you are seeking deals with these areas of the body. Before your doctor visit, ask the insurance company to give you a comprehensive list of things the doctor will examine. Then you'll be prepared to get through your medical insurance examination quickly and painlessly.
